XCP publishes its development stack under Apache 2.0. Indie developers, creators and tool builders can explore the source, contribute examples and propose new workflows. Historical Xbox results are documented; newly built packages still require their own hardware validation.

Historical Xbox results describe their exact builds. A new build needs a new observation and its own evidence.

The public repository was extracted from the original research environment to make the platform reusable while keeping operational records and private environment data outside the public source. Development builds and their results are identified separately from the historical Xbox runs.

Where to begin

Choose a contribution path.

Portable core

Start with the Python package, XVM vectors and conformance tests on a supported development machine.

Windows build

Reconstruct Studio and the development packages from source using the documented Windows toolchain.

Xbox verification

Use an owned Xbox Series X in Developer Mode and follow the community reproduction protocol. Report the new build and package identities.

Projects and proposals

Build an example, bring a source project, suggest a workflow or propose an integration. Contributions can start with an idea as well as code.

Tools and integrations

Improve adapters, Studio, XVM tooling, diagnostics, packaging or agent integrations. The longer-term direction is to connect more frameworks, engines, runtimes and targets; new support needs its own implementation and measured results.

Terms

First-party source is Apache 2.0; third-party components keep their own licenses. Xbox Developer Mode and optional AI providers have separate terms and possible costs.

XCP Studio runs on Windows only — for now. It is a native desktop application.
